Wm ~O$COE ~EYNOLDS

SENATE Of VIRGINIA

October ?, 2003

Enclosure #. III

The Honorable Bernie Sanders
United States House of Representatives
2233 Rayburn House Office Building
Washin~on, D.C. 20515

Dear Congressman Sanders:

I read with interest in the October 4, 2003 edition of the Greensboro Daily News &
Record that you had filed in the Urdted States House of Representatives a bill that would revoke
normal trade relations with China. Thank you for doing that.

Enclosed herewith, please find a copy of a letter that I have sent to each of the 13
members of Congress that represent Virginia in the Congress of the Un/ted States. I have also
sent a similar letter to President Bush and to Vice President Chaney. Also enclosed please find
copies of my letters of today's date to Governor Warner of Virgirfia and Secretary of Commerce
Michael ScheweI of Virginia.

I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to have this legislation enacted into law. I hope
you will let me know if there is anyth/ng I can do that would be helpful in your efforts. I am
convinced that unless this change of policy that you propose is made right away, the
manufacturing jobs that exist in the Un/ted States in the textile and furniture industries will soon
be lost to Ckina.

Thank you, again, for your efforts.

r~V~:sm
Enclosure
