July 28, 2003 <br /> <br />A special, joint meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, and the <br /> <br />Board of Supervisors of the County of Henry, Virginia, was held on July 28, 2003, in <br /> <br />Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, beginning at 1:00 P. M., with Mayor Gene <br /> <br />Teague presiding, to honor local resident Nancy Amanda Redd, Miss Virginia 2003. <br /> <br />Council Members present included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice <br /> <br />Mayor; and Council Members Bruce H. T. Dallas and J. Ronald Ferrill. Council Member <br /> <br />Joseph R. Cobbe was absent. Mayor Teague acknowledged State Senator Roscoe <br /> <br />Reynolds and State Delegate Robert Hurt. <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly <br /> <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members present voting: Vote 4 - <br /> <br />0; Yeas (4) - Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Miss Nancy Amanda Redd competed for and won the <br />title of Miss Martinsville-Henry County 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, as holder of that title, she competed for and won the <br />title of Miss Virginia 2003; and <br />WHEREAS, in fulfillment of her duties as Miss Virginia, Miss Redd <br />will represent both Martinsville and Henry County as an <br />ambassador, supporter and booster of our shared communities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, as an outstanding student, musician, church member, <br />community supporter and even game show contestant, she has <br />demonstrated qualities representative of the goals for which the <br />people of Martinsville and Henry County strive; and <br />WHEREAS, through her studies and personal accomplishments, <br />she has earned national attention for her native area through <br />significant media coverage and exposure; and <br />WHEREAS, as Miss Virginia she will compete for the title of Miss <br />America 2003 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, during the month of <br />September; and <br />WHEREAS, as Miss Redd continues to bring positive attention and <br />has committed to continuing in the role as an ambassador for this <br />community through her commitments as Miss Virginia; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia is <br />confident the people of Martinsville and Henry County are well <br />served by Miss Redd's representation; now, therefore <br /> <br /> <br />
