Mayor Teague emphasized the importance of this action and the possibility of restoring these funds. Council Member Cobbe expressed concern that the School System said that they could do with less, but after the State announced that there would be no cuts, they did not cut. By general consensus with no vote taken, Council set the following budget work sessions: Thursday, May 1,2003, Thursday, May 8, 2003, and Thursday, May 15, 2003, 11:00A. M.- 1:00 P. M. Council considered a report from the City Manager and Superintendent of Schools recommending an employee health insurance provider for FY04. Iris Read, Human Resources Manager, reported that 852 employees and 121 retirees a~e enrolled in the City's health plan and that the Health Care Committee recommended Southern Health be selected to administer the healthcare benefit program, effective July 1, 2003. There would be no increased cost to the City. Vice Mayor Roop moved to authorize the City Manager to proceed with a contract with Southern Health; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. Council considered business from the floor. Matthew Hankins, Public Information Officer, reported that (1) the Fire Department will begin a call-in show on Channel 22 on Monday, April 14, 2003, and (2) the Cyberangels will plant a tree on Broad Street in memory of Jennifer Short on Friday, April 11, 2003, 4:30 P. M. Chris Koumparakis, of 1772 Farmbrook Road, Ridgeway, stated that all of the money from The Harvest Foundation should be given to Council.
