May 27, 2003 <br /> <br /> Council considered a request from the Martinsville Uptown Revitalization <br />Association (MURA) to implement a charge for vendors to participate at the Farmer's <br />Market. Lisa Barker, MURA Executive Director, stated that the fees are to cover <br />marketing and advertising, not to generate a profit. In response to an inquiry by Council <br />Member Dallas, Matthew Hankins, Public Information Officer, reported that Channel 22 <br />cannot be used for advertising purposes. Vice Mayor Roop moved to authorize the <br />vendor charges as presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 4 - 1; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Ferrill, Roop, <br />Teague; Nays (1) - Dallas. <br /> <br /> Council considered authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement with Henry <br />County and the Gateway Streetscape Foundation, Inc., which provides for the merger of <br />the Clean Community Commission with Gateway and the relocation of the Gateway <br />offices to the Henry County Administration Building. City Manager Reynolds stated that <br />both the Gateway Streetscape Foundation Board and the Clean Community <br />Commission Board are in agreement and that the Henry County Board of Supervisors <br />approved such action today. Vice Mayor Roop moved to authorize the Mayor to <br />execute such; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Cobbe, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) <br />- None. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Klm Adkins, of the Martinsville- <br /> Henry County Chamber of Commerce, announced that City Manager Reynolds and <br /> Benny Summerlin, Henry County Administrator, have agreed to meet to discuss <br /> economic development needs.
