Monday, <br /> Assistant Fire Chief <br /> <br />Date: <br /> <br />Subject: <br /> <br />January 27, 2003 <br /> <br />Terrorism Preparedness Funds Proposal <br /> <br /> Attached, please find a proposal for use of U.S. Depmhnent of Justice <br />(DO J) Grant Funds, as extended to the City, by the Virginia Depm hxient of Emergency <br />Management (VDEM). Below, is a brief history of the origination of such funds and a <br />brief synopsis of the proposal. <br /> <br /> The DOJ Grant Funds are intended to allow local governments to procure <br />equipment that enhances response to weapons of mass destruction incidents. The City of <br />Martinsville is allocated $31,521.43, in non-matching funds, for such purposes. To use <br />these funds, the City must complete an application package and submit the same to <br />VDEM by March 23, 2003. Once received by VDEM, the funds will be electronically <br />transferred to the City, for the exclusive purpose of equipment, from nine specific <br />categories. <br /> <br /> As you know, you appointed a three-person committee to assimilate a <br />comprehensive plan for the project. The committee consisted of the following: <br /> <br />1. Clarence Monday, Assistant Fire Chief, Fire DeptuItment. <br />2. Gary Dove, Lieutenant, Police Depmhnent. <br />3.
