Enclosure #

Martinsville
CITY W~THOUT L~MITS

November 26, 2002

Mr. William Woodfin, Executive Director
Department of Game and Inland Fisheries
4010 W. Broad Street
Richmond, VA 23230

Dear Mr. Woodfin:
At its meeting on November 26, 2002, the Martinsville City Council voted to support the
request made by the Henry County Board of Supervisors to the Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries to extend the general firearms season in Henry County from two to seven weeks. This
would make Henry County"s season the same as the request under consideration for western
Pittsylvania County. In addition, the Board is requesting the Department consider regulations
that would encourage the harvesting of"antlerless" deer. The Board believes it is necessary to
reduce the deer population in the County in order to minimize the damage to crops.
It is our understanding the Department will begin the formal process of public hearings
next spring, with decisions for the 2004 and 2005 hunting seasons being made at the May, 2003
Board meeting.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. If you require any additional
information, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

Sincerelyt

Earl B.
