September 5, 2002 Erlclosure # ~ ' <br />A work session meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held <br />on September 5, 2002, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, beginning at 11:00 <br />A. M., with Mayor Gene Teague presiding, to discuss City telecommunications. Council <br />Members present included: M. Gene Teague, Mayor; Terry L. Roop, Vice Mayor; and <br />Council Members Joseph R. Cobbe, Bruce H. T. Dallas, and J. Ronald Ferrill. <br /> <br /> Tom Harned, Director of Economic Development, presented a historical overview of <br />the telecommunications industry and an update on the Martinsville Informational Network <br />(MINet). MINet currently connects all City buildings, schools, the Blue Ridge Regional <br />Library, Patrick Henry Community College, and the Henry County Administration Building. <br />He introduced the Technology Team: Robert Harris, Electric; Mike Scaffidi, Public Works; <br />Tiffani Underwood, Economic Development; Paul Roop, Electric; Wade Bartlett, Finance; <br />and Matthew Hankins, Public Information Officer. <br /> <br /> Tiffani Underwood, City Marketing Specialist, stated that the MINer capabilities <br />include high-speed communication, real-time interaction, traffic signal control, substation <br />monitoring, and powerfui~marketing tool. She reviewed Virginia Tech's e-Corridor <br />Program, e-Dan, which is the network for the City of Danville and County of Pittsylvania, <br />and LENOWISCO, which is the network for the Counties of Lee, Norton, and Wise. She <br />stated that the next step for the City is to apply for a Certificate of Local Exchange Carriers <br />(CLEC); the Cities of Bristol and Danville are initial applicants. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before Council during their work session <br />meeting, upon motion by Vice Mayor Roop, duly seconded, by unanimous vote, Mayor <br />Teague declared the meeting adjourned at 12:05 P.
