June 25, 2002 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> Virginia, was held on June 25, 2002, at Clearview Elementary School, beginning at 7:30' <br /> P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present included: Mark <br /> A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council Members Bruce H. T. <br /> Dallas and Terry L. Roop. Council Member J. Ronald Ferrill was out-of-town. <br /> <br /> Immediately preceding the meeting, Council recognized Mayor Crabtree's <br /> service. He received a proclamation announcing "Dr. Mark A. Crabtree Week," a key to <br /> the City, a gift certificate, and an inscribed gavel. Council presented, also, a silver <br /> platter to Rebecca Crabtree. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Dallas and the Pledge of Allegiance, <br /> Mayor Crabtree welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council conducted the town meeting. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service <br />Coordinator, presented the customer concern report of the high school precinct for June <br />2001 through June 2002. Matthew Hankins, Public Information Officer, announced <br />several upcoming events. Dorothy Cochran, Sprint Public Affairs Manager, spoke in <br />response to complaints with the 2002 telephone directory. Danny Turner, of 212 <br />Greyson Street, discussed the influx of Hispanics into the City, primarily his' <br />neighborhood and requested Council to assist with the problem. Specific complaints <br /> <br />included sleeping in the backyard and cars, public alcohol consumption, loud noise and <br />music, and large numbers of people living in one house. Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City <br />Manager, stated that the interior of a residence cannot be inspected unless staff is <br />invited. Council discussed the need to investigate a rental property certification <br /> <br /> <br />
