July 9, 2002 <br /> <br />(a) The city treasurer shall follow the procedure prescribed by the <br /> Code of Virginia in respect to handling delinquent real estate <br /> taxes and recording such delinquent taxes. <br />(b) There is hereby imposed upon each person chargeable with <br /> delinquent taxes or other delinquent charges, fees to cover the <br /> administrative costs and reasonable attorney's or collection <br /> agency's fees, actually contracted for. The attorney's or <br /> collection agency's fees shall be twenty percent (20%) of the <br /> taxes or other charges so collected. The administrative costs <br /> shall be in addition to all penalties and interest, and shall not <br /> exceed twenty dollars ($20.00) for taxes or other charges <br /> collected subsequent to the filing of a warrant or other <br /> appropriate legal document, but prior to judgment, and twenty- <br /> five dollars ($25.00) for taxes or other charges collected <br /> subsequent to judgment. <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that this ordinance shall be effective <br />on and after July 19, 2002. <br /> <br />Council considered conducting a Public Hearing and approving an ordinance on <br /> <br />a request from Lacy E. Brown to rezone property located at 120 Maple Street, Tax Map <br /> <br />ID 33(0)08 of the City of Martinsville, from M-2 Industrial to R-6 Residential. Earl B. <br /> <br />Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, requested more time for staff to further discuss this matter <br /> <br />with the Planning Commission and appropriate property owners. By general <br /> <br />consensus, with no vote taken, Council tabled this issue until a further meeting. <br /> <br />Council considered business from the floor. Steve Draper, Sheriff, announced <br /> <br />that "National Night Out" would be held on Tuesday, August 6, 6:00 - 9:00 P. M., in the <br /> <br />Broad Street parking lot. <br /> <br />Council considered Staff Reports. John Dyches, Water Resources Manager, <br /> <br />presented a water status report, stating, "It's a matter of concern, not alarm." He did not <br /> <br />recommend any restrictions but will continue to evaluate the situation. Matthew <br /> <br />Hankins, Public Information Officer, presented "In the City," the City customer <br /> <br />newsletter.
