May 14, 2002 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on May 14, 2002, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Teague and the Pledge of <br />Allegiance, Mayor Crabtree welcomed everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council considered approval of the minutes of the April 18, 2002, and.April 30, <br />2002, meetings, as presented; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the <br />following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, <br />Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council considered a presentation by the Eighth Grade Scholars Class of <br />Martinsville Middle School, under the guidance of Ms. Anne Stultz. Bally Showalter, <br />Mary Dorothy Fain, Ariel Harrington, and Caitlin Stromfors proposed a teen center as <br />part of "Project Citizen," a community problem-solving unit. Vice Mayor Teague <br />requested that the teen center idea be placed on the next strategic planning agenda. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption, on second, reading, of Ordinance No. 2002-2 <br />adding Section 1-16 Special Assessment for funding of courthouse security personnel <br />as part of costs in criminal and traffic cases to Chapter 1 of the City Code. Council <br />Member Roop moved to adopt the following Ordinance No. 2002-2, on second reading; <br />the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following roll call vote, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays <br />(0) - None: <br /> <br /> <br />
