April 9, 2002 <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree presented a proclamation to Hal Huebner, Blue Ridge Regional <br /> <br />Library Director, recognizing April 14-20, 2002, as National Library Week. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution declaring May 4-18, 2002, as <br /> <br />"Operation Spruce-Up" in the City. Council Member Dallas moved to adopt the <br />following Resolution; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, <br /> <br />with all members present voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferriil, Roop; <br /> <br />Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council recognizes the importance <br />of dean streets, parks, roads, homes and businesses in the City of <br />Martinsville; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council understands that many economic <br />development efforts require a good "first impression" that comes <br />with clean streets and thoroughfares; and <br />WHEREAS, the responsibility of creating and maintaining a clean <br />community lies with all residents of the Community; and <br />WHEREAS, the period of May 4 through May 18, 2002 is <br />"Operation Spruce-Up" in the Commonwealth of Virginia, when <br />residents are encouraged to work together to clean, straighten or <br />repair homes, businesses, vacant lots, roadsides, and any other <br />areas in the Community that need assistance; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled on April 23, 2002, that it <br />does hereby endorse the Clean Community Commission of <br />Martinsville and Henry County's efforts to promote May 4-18, 2002, <br />as "Operation Spruce-Up" in the City of Martinsville and to further <br />encourage all residents of the City to participate in the team effort <br />to make our Community an even better place in which to work and <br />live. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of Ordinance 2002-1 to amend Zoning Ordinance <br /> <br />Section Xl, Professional Districts. Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt Ordinance <br /> <br />2002-1 [Attachment Al, on second reading; the motion was duly seconded and carried <br />by the following roll call vote, with all members present voting: Vote 3 - 1; Yeas (3) - <br /> <br />Crabtree, Ferrill, Roop; Nays (1) - Dallas. <br /> <br /> <br />
