<br />Council Member Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion was duly
<br />
<br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas
<br />
<br />(5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None:
<br />
<br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville High School Bulldogs Basketball Team
<br />completed its regular 2001-2002 season as the Piedmont District
<br />Champions without a single loss; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Bulldogs advanced to become the Virginia High
<br />School League Group AA, Region IV Champions; and
<br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville Bulldogs Basketball Team ultimately
<br />became the 2001-2002 Group AA State Champions of the Virginia
<br />High School League, with a final record of 29-1; and
<br />WHEREAS, that championship is the second consecutive for
<br />Martinsville and a VHSL record twelfth championship; and
<br />WHEREAS, in winning consecutive championships, the Bulldogs
<br />have accumulated a two-season combined record of 55-3 and a
<br />winning percentage of 95 percent; and
<br />WHEREAS, these young people, through displaying their team
<br />effort, sportsmanship, determination, skill and ability and their
<br />coaches exemplify the spirit and quality of the young people of our
<br />community and the athletic programs in our schools, in turn
<br />reflecting positively on their community; now, therefore,
<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville,
<br />Virginia, in regular session assembled Mamh 26, 2002, that it does
<br />hereby recognize and congratulate the young men of the
<br />Martinsville High School Bulldog Basketball Team--Team: Brian
<br />Frasier, Sean Wade, Rache Waller, Brandon Hairston, Dontay
<br />Mitchell, Howard Stone, Jovan Williamson, Brandon Ingram,
<br />William Preston, Andre Benton, Kamemn King, Aaron Christman,
<br />Gene Smith, Hunter Altice; Managers: Darron Epperly, Cedric
<br />Hodge, Cameron Green; Statistician: Ryan Carson; along with
<br />Head Coach Troy Wells and his Assistants - Larry Hairston, Doug
<br />Hankins and David Draper- for their outstanding achievements.
<br />
<br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution requesting the Virginia Department
<br />
<br />of Transportation to add eligible lane mileage for collector/local street maintenance
<br />
<br />payments to the City. Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution; the
<br />
<br />motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting:
