March 26, 2002 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on March 26, 2002, at Albert Harris School, beginning at 7:30 P. M., <br />with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present included: Mark A. <br />Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council Members Bruce H. T. <br />Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry'L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Dallas, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Council Member Ferrill moved to adopt the Minutes of February 12, 2002, <br />February 26, 2002, March 7, 2002, and March 12, 2002, as presented; the motion was <br />duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; <br />Yeas (5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council conducted the Town Meeting. Brenda Prillaman, Customer Service <br />Representative, presented the report of the Albert Harris and Police Academy areas for <br />March 2001 through March 2002. Gloria Hylton, of 402 Second Street, complimented <br />the City parks and Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, and inquired about the street <br />sweeper, grading of Academy Place, and back tax properties. Mrs. Hylton stated that <br />she and her husband would like to purchase the back tax property that adjoins their lot. <br />By general consensus and no vote taken, Council requested the following from Pat <br />Conrad, City Treasurer: (1) response to Mrs. Hylton's request; (2)inventory of back tax <br />properties; and (3) policy or procedure regarding back tax properties. J. B. Travis, of <br />401 Fifth Street, complimented the Public Works Department. <br /> <br /> Council considered adoption of a Resolution recognizing the Martinsville High <br />School Boys Basketball Team for winning the Group AA State Championship for 2002. <br /> <br /> <br />
