March 12, 2002 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on March 12, 2002, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Vice Mayor Teague, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting and led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br /> Council considered approval of the minutes of the February 12, 2002, and <br />February 26, 2002, meetings; by general consensus and no vote taken, Council <br />deferred action until the next meeting. <br /> <br /> Council considered recognition of City employees receiving service awards from <br />January through March 2002. The following individuals were recognized: <br /> <br /> 35 Years: Paul Roop, Electric Department; and Betty Roach, <br /> Community Development <br /> 25 Years: William Jones, Water Resources Department <br /> 20 Years: Leon Towarnicki, Public Works <br /> 10 Years: Donald Lucado, Fire Department; Mike Scaffidi, Public <br /> Works; Earl Reynolds, City Manager; and Beverly Keaton, Police <br /> Department <br /> 5 Years: Daniel Smith, Police Department; William Akers, Fire <br /> Department; and Dwayne Spencer, Public Works <br /> <br /> Council considered recognition of Nominees for the 2002 First Quarter Service <br />Excellence Award and announcement of the Quarterly Winner. Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., <br />City Manager, stated, "These employees set an example of a true public servant," and <br />recognized Weldon Reynolds, Public Works; Joe Hundley, Leisure Services; Randy <br />Martin, Leisure Services; Sandy Handy, Leisure Services; Clyde Jones, Leisure <br />Services; and Mary Ann Mason, Housing. Mrs. Mason was named the winner. <br /> <br /> <br />
