BUILDING REGULATIONS <br /> <br />§ 6-19 <br /> <br />contractor shall promptly furnish to the commissioner of the revenue a copy of the names and <br />addresses of every subcontractor working on any such contract who does not have a city <br />business license. <br />(Ord. No. 96-14, 11-26-96) <br /> <br />Secs. 6-7--6-15. Reserved. <br /> <br />ARTICLE II. UNSAFE BUILDINGS* <br /> <br />Sec. 6-16. Definition. <br /> <br /> As used in this article, "USBC" means the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code. <br /> <br />Sec. 6-17. What constitutes; condemnation generally. <br /> <br /> Buildings and their equipment constructed after September 1, 1973, and subject to the <br />USBC when constructed, that fail to comply with the USBC, through deterioration, improper <br />maintenance or for other reasons, and thereby become unsafe, unsanitary or deficient in <br />adequate exit facilities, and which constitute a fire hazard, or are otherwise dangerous to <br />human life or the public welfare, shall be deemed unsafe buildings. All such unsafe buildings <br />shall be made safe through compliance with the USBC or shall be taken down and removed, <br />as the building official may deem necessary. Buildings constructed prior to September 1, 1973, <br />shall be subject to condemnation for the reasons foregoing, pursuant to section 15.1-11.2 of the <br />Code of Virginia. Avacant building, unsecured or open at door or window, may be deemed a fire <br />hazard and unsafe within the meaning of this section. <br />(Ord. of 8-10-82, § 1) <br /> <br />Sec. 6-18. General duties of building official. <br /> <br /> The building official shall examine every building or structure reported as dangerous, <br />unsafe structurally or constituting a fire hazard and he shall cause the report to be filed in a <br />docket of unsafe structures and premises, stating the use of the structure and the nature and <br />estimated amount of damages, if any, caused by collapse or failure. <br />(Ord. of 8-10-82, § 2) <br /> <br />Sec. 6-19. Notice to repair or remove. <br /> <br /> (a) If a building is found to be unsafe, the building official shall serve a notice on the owner, <br />his agent or person in control of the unsafe building, specifying the required repairs or <br />improvements to be made to render the building safe or requiring the unsafe building or <br />portion thereof to be taken down and removed within a stipulated time. Such notice shall <br />require the person thus notified to declare, without delay, to the building official his acceptance <br />or rejection of the terms of the notice. <br /> <br /> *Charter reference--Authority of city to remove unsafe buildings, Ch. 1, § 2(32). <br /> <br />Supp. No. 51 383 <br /> <br /> <br />
