Vice Mayor Teague moved to adopt the following Resolution;

the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members

present voting: Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) -

None:

WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School System has actively
participated in the feasibility study for the planning and
development of the Piedmont Governor's School for Mathematics,
Science and Technology for the jurisdictions of the Counties of
Henry, Patrick and Pittsylvania and the Cities of Martinsville and
Danville; and
WHEREAS, the Martinsville City School Board recognizes the need
for an academic year Regional Governor's School for high-
achieving, highly-motivated, and academically-gifted students; and
WHEREAS, after review and consideration of the resultant
feasibility study, it has been formally accepted by the Martinsville
City School Board; and
WHEREAS, the City of Martinsville realizes a Regional Governor's
School would complement the Community's efforts to recruit
incoming businesses and families to our area; and
WHEREAS, pending final review, approval and appropriation of
funds by the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia General
Assembly, the Martinsville City School Board plans to participate in
the program commencing with the 2002 School Year as a member
of the Governing Board; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville,
Virginia, in regular session assembled September 11, 2001, that it
does fully support the Piedmont Governor's School program and
urges the Virginia Board of Education and the Virginia General
