112 <br /> <br /> July 5-6, 2001 <br /> <br /> prospects with sites, utilities, and incentives and to maintain <br /> communications with regional and state entities that can <br /> enhance the success of Martinsville efforts. <br /> <br /> Council discussed and set the following 2001-2002 priorities: core services, <br />economic development, organization, community development, regional collaborations, <br />capital investment, and legislative action. At the conclusion of priority development, <br />Council adopted strategies, objectives, and action plans for each priority that have been <br />integrated into the Council plan. The goals include: Council and staff will commit to a <br />consistent process of strategic planning; aggressively develop the economic base of the <br />City of Martinsville; assure that community resources create the most effective <br />government system possible; aggressively seek regional opportunities for cooperation; <br />provide services and programs that will contribute to the enhancement of Martinsville's <br />quality of life; implement an effective lobbying process that can gain support from the <br />General Assembly to accomplish Martinsville legislative priorities; support the <br />development of quality education; and recognize and involve the wealth of community <br />diversity to improve the quality of life for all citizens and to seek community <br />improvements and solutions. <br /> <br /> Council recessed at 8:00 P. M., until the following day. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened on July 6, 2001, at 9:00 A. M. <br /> <br /> There being no further business to come before Council during their strategic <br />planning retreat, upon motion by Council Member Roop, duly seconded, by unanimous <br />vote, Mayor Crabtree declared the meeting adjourned at 4:00 P.
