June 4, 2001 <br /> <br /> A work session meeting to review the Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Proposed Budget of <br />the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, was held on June 4, 2001, in the <br />Administrative Conference Room of the Municipal Building, beginning at 7:08 P. M., with <br />Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present included: Mark A. Crabtree, <br />Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council Members Bruce H, T., D~!las, J. <br /> <br />Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Rives Brown Coleman, President <br /> <br />of the Martinsville Uptown Revitalization <br /> <br />Association, presented highlights of the past several years and reviewed their budget <br />request. He stated that the increase in funding would be used for the Farmers' Market. <br /> <br /> Charles Price, Cooperative Extension Unit Coordinator, presented an overview of <br />his program and reviewed his budget request. <br /> <br /> Renee Wyatt, Public Information Officer, presented her program review and <br />reviewed her budget request. <br /> <br /> Iris Read, Human Resources Manager, presented her program review and <br />reviewed her budget request. Council discussed the compensation plan and evaluation <br />process. By general consensus, Council agreed to support the additional $10.00 <br />employer contribution for employees' health care plan and the Virginia Retirement <br />System 50/30 early r~ctan. <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to add three additional firefighters to the Fire <br />Department's budget for FY2001-2002; the motion died for a lack of a second. <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to decrease the Senior Services budget by <br />$1,000, and increase the Pittsylvania Community Action Agency budget by $1,000; the <br />motion was duly seconded.
