April 24, 2001 <br /> <br />Sanders, of 208 Starling Avenue, questioned the status of economic development <br /> <br />between the City and the County of Henry. Mayor Crabtree responded that there is <br /> <br />nothing to report. <br /> <br />Council considered an update report on the Workforce Profile Project being <br /> <br />conducted for the Patrick Henry Development Council. Marcelle Morgan, President of <br /> <br />Workforce Directions, stated that initial interviews were completed in January and that <br /> <br />two questionnaires will be distributed to target and random industries this week and to <br /> <br />the general population this weekend at K-Mart. Council Members discussed the <br /> <br />identification of needs and suggested possibly using the hospital for future general <br /> <br />population surveys. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption of a Resolution endorsing Clean Community <br /> <br />Commission of Martinsville-Henry County's efforts in sponsoring the Operation Spruce- <br /> <br />Up event. Council Member Roop moved to adopt the following Resolution; the motion <br /> <br />was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members present voting: <br /> <br />Vote 4 - 0; Yeas (4) - Crabtree, Dallas, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Martinsville City Council recognizes the importance <br />of clean streets, parks, road, homes and businesses in the City of <br />Martinsville; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council understands that many economic <br />development efforts require a good "first impression" that comes <br />with clean streets and thoroughfares; and <br />WHEREAS, the responsibility of creating and maintaining a dean <br />community lies with all residents of the Community; and <br />WHEREAS, the period of May 5 through May 12, 2001 is <br />"Operation Spruce-Up" in the Commonwealth of Virginia, when <br />residents are encouraged to work together to clean, straighten or <br />repair homes, businesses, vacant lots, roadsides, and any other <br />areas in the Community that need assistance; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, in regular session assembled on April 24, 2001, that it <br />does hereby endorse the Clean Community Commission of <br /> <br /> <br />
