Mayor Crabtree declared the Public Hearing open. With no response, he <br /> <br />declared the Public Hearing closed. Five public hearings were held - on in Richmond, one in Abingdon, <br /> <br />one in Harrisonburg, one in Roanoke, and one I can't r~/nember. The two alternatives <br /> <br />presented were geographic overlay and new numbers. Tle~e option of new numbers was <br /> <br />chosen to retain seven-digit local dialing, maximize and balance remaining area code <br /> <br />life, and no changes to dialing patterns to either Roanoke or Danville.
