April 10, 2001 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br />Virginia, was held on April 10, 2001, in Council Chamber of the Municipal Building, <br />beginning at 7:30 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council Members present <br />included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; and Council <br />Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Mayor Crabtree, he welcomed everyone to the <br />meeting. <br /> <br /> Council considered approval of the Minutes. Council Member Dallas moved to <br />approve the Minutes of March 8, 13, and 22, 2001, as presented; the motion was duly <br />seconded and carried by the following vote, with all members voting: Vote 5 - 0; Yeas <br />(5) - Crabtree, Dallas, Ferrill, Roop, Teague; Nays (0) - None. <br /> <br /> Council made special presentations to the families of the late and former Mayor <br />William C. Cole, Jr., and Vice Mayor Clyde L. Williams, Sr. The plaques were accepted <br />by Buck, Betsy, and Carper Cole, and Katherine Seay and Clyde L. Williams, Jr. <br />Council made comments, including "true inspiration to me and others" by Council <br />Member Roop, "thanks to their families for their service" by Vice Mayor Teague, "better <br />place because of them" by Council Member Dallas, "real assets to the community" by <br />Council Member Fen'ill, and "great men and fond memories" by Mayor Crabtree. <br /> <br /> Council considered business from the floor. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 Park Street, <br /> voiced a concern of a "personal slam against me" because her late mother's house was <br /> cited due to high grass and weeds after being reported by a City employee. CoUncil <br /> requested that Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, follow-up on this issue. Mrs. <br /> Pinkard continued by voicing concerns about properties being inspected and codes <br /> <br /> <br />
