48 <br />March 27, 2001 <br /> <br />Track 2001 Business Trade Show and $500 being donated to the William L. Slate <br />Memorial Scholarship Fund established by City employees at Patrick Henry Community <br />College. Kim Adkins, Executive Director, made the presentation. <br /> <br /> Council considered conducting a Town Meeting. Brenda Prillaman, Customer <br />Service, presented handouts of customer concerns from the VMNH neighborhood. <br />Gary Johnson, property owner of 716 Carter Street, recommended converting the <br />VMNH back to a school, lending institution representatives meeting with the City <br />Manager to develop a fund to assist new homeowners, and considering a different <br />location for the proposed industrial park other than towards Stuart. He also thanked <br />Council for their insight for Albert Harris Intermediary School renovations. John <br />Sanders, of 208 Starling Avenue, inquired of the next meeting between the City and <br />County [of Henry] in regards to economic development. Thelma Pinkard, of 208 Park <br />Street, discussed the need for rental properties to be held to some code or standards. <br />She also discussed the Southside Community Development Block Grant. Wayne Knox, <br />Planning, Zoning, & Housing Manager, stated that 33 houses are in the grant area with <br />19 being property owners and 14 being rental properties. Ralph Draper, of 816 Keel <br />Street, voiced opposition to closing the Southside Fire Station and concern for the street <br />lines being painted over on Forest Street and the foliage being grown up at the Starling <br />Avenue bridge. <br /> <br /> Wade Bartlett, Director of Finance, presented the financial report for month <br />ending February 28, 2001. <br /> <br /> Council considered the Consent Agenda. Vice Mayor Teague moved to approve <br />the following items; the motion was duly seconded and carried by the following vote, <br /> <br /> <br />
