275 <br /> <br />December 12, 2000 <br /> <br /> Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager; recognized the fourth quarter 2000 Service <br />Excellence Award nominees and winner- Bob Riggs, Fire; Chad Dodson, Public <br />Works; Tony Davis, Water Resources; and Coretha Gravely, Police, winner. <br /> <br /> Rives Brown Coleman, President of the Martinsville Uptown Revitalization <br />Association, presented an ornament representing the former Martinsville High School to <br />Council Members. <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree presented a summary of the City's accomplishments for 2000. <br />Brenda Prillaman, of Customer Service, presented a report of customer concerns <br />of the Druid Hills and Middle School areas. She stated, "All complaints, except for 34, <br />have been resolved. The main concerns were street and sidewalk issues and property <br />maintenance violations." Council Member Roop noticed a sewer problem listed on <br />Beechnut Lane. John Dyches, Water Resources Director, stated, "In the past, the City <br />decided that residents must do away with their septic tanks and connect to the City line. <br />However, not everyone did, and there's no way to know until there's a problem." <br /> <br /> Mayor Crabtree declared the Town Meeting open. Tim Moore, of Rives Road, <br />stated, "1 would like to see Rives Road closed to truck traffic beginning at the City limits. <br />This area is primarily residential, and trucks use it as a cut-through. They run 24 hours <br />daily and cause noise and air pollution." Council requested that Leon Towarnicki, <br />Director of Public Works, take this matter to the Transportation Safety Commission, and <br />invited Mr. Moore to attend the next meeting. Chris Koumparakis, of the Martinsville <br />High School Wrestler Boosters, stated, "1 understand that the City Leisure Services is <br />taking the lower tennis courts at the high school and turning them into a public <br />basketball court. This is the most ludicrous thing I've heard. School personnel do not <br /> <br /> <br />
