TUESDAY. January 9. 2001 <br /> <br />follow-up contacts can be made with each finn receiving a copy. Council Members commended Ms. Ramsey, <br /> <br />the Patrick Henry Developmerit Council, and its staff for recent economic development efforts. <br /> <br />Council considered a Public Hearing 'and adoption of an Ordinance on a request by the City of'Martinsvilte. <br />Mr. Wayne D.P. Knox, the City's Planning, Zoning, and Housing Manager, summarized that the request is <br />necessary to abandon a 20-foot roadway off the eastside of'Brookdale Street near the intersection of <br />Sprucedale Street. Mr. Knox stated that on November 30, 2000 the City Planning Commission held a Public <br />Hearing to discuss cleansing the title, but no one asked any questions or made any objections on the issue. <br />The Public Heating was opened and then was closed. No one spoke during the hearing. Council moved upon <br />motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5-0; Yeas (5)-'Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Fenill, and <br />Roop; Nays (0)- None, to adopt the Ordinance as follows: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDA!NED by the Council of the City of MartinsviHe, Virginia, in 'regular session assembled, 'that in <br />order to assure compliance with Virginia Code Section 15.2-2200, it is intended that the public purpose for <br />which this Ordinance is initiated is to encourage localities to improve the public health, safety, convenience, <br />and welfare of its citizens and to plan for the future development of communities - that a portion of the <br />street, as described below, be--'and is hereby -- declared - vacated and abandoned in favor of the City of <br />Martinsville, subject to the filing of an appropriate map with--and the approval by-- the City' s Planning, <br />Zoning and Housing Manager, showing the areas hereby declared vacated and abandoned, which map, when <br />and as approved, shall be duly recorded in the Office of the Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court: <br /> <br />A 20-foot wide and approximately 173.31-feet long roadway lying on the east side of Brookdale <br />Street near the 'intersection with Sprucedale Street, as shown on the City Tax Map 46. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED by said Council that, an emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force <br />immediately upon adoption. <br /> <br />Council considered adoption, on second 'reading, of Ordinance Number 2001-1. Ms. Pat Conrad, City <br />Treasurer stated that the alteration is requested to amend Chapter 12 - Motor Vehicles and Traffic, Article HI <br />- Vehicle License, Sections 12.51, 12-53, and 12-55 of the Martinsville Code regarding local license decals. <br />The Ordinance will establish a new rate for automobile decals, $10.00 instead of the current $20.00, for <br />vehicles purchased after October 1 of the year or when the registered owner does not become a City resident <br /> <br /> <br />
