TUESDAY. January 9, 2001 <br />A regular, semi.monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Dr. Mark A. <br />Crabtree, Mayor, presiding, was held Tuesday, January 9, 2001, in the Council Chambers of the Municipal <br />Building, beginning at 7:30 P.M. The following members of Council were present: Dr. Mark A. 'Crabtree, <br />Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice-Mayor; Bruce H.T. Dallas, Ronald Fenill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br />After the invocation, provided by Council Member Roop, Council moved upon motion duly seconded, with all <br />members voting: Vote 5-0; Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Fenill, and Roop; Nays (0)- None, the <br />Minutes of the November 30, December 12, 'and December 14, 2000 Meetings. Also, Council mqyed upon <br />motion duly seconded, with all members voting: Vote 5-0; Yeas (5)- Crabtree, Teague, Dallas, Fenill, and <br />Roop; Nays (0)- None, the Minutes of the November 28, 2000 Meeting, as amended. <br /> <br />Mayor Crabtree opened the Meeting for business from the floor. No one addressed Council. <br /> <br />Council considered a presentation by the Patrick Henry Development Council. Mg: 'Sherry Ramsey, <br />Executive Director of the Patrick Henry Development Council, gave an update as to recent economic <br />development news in the Martinsville and Henry County area. Ms. Ramsey stated that there have been six <br />recent industrial announcements, and she is optimistic that more will follow in the near future. The <br />Martinsville and Henry County localities ranked tenth in the'Commonwealth of Virginia for economic <br />development for the past year. Also, several businesses have expressed interest in the City's Clearview <br />Business Park and the BB&T 'business incubator site. This month, efforts will commence to initiate a <br />workforce profile study which will be funded by a grant that the Patrick Henry Development Council <br />received. The study is anticipated to take six to nine months to complete. At the meeting, the Patrick Henry <br />Development Council' s new marketing tool was unveiled, a BIZ card. The strategy is a CD/ROM, in the <br />shape of a business card that will be' distributed to 1,'500 firms: The purpose of the tool is to market the City <br />area and was funded by a BB&T donation. The items will be distributed in small quantities in order that <br /> <br /> <br />
