Enclosure #1-b 262 <br /> <br />November 28, 2000 <br /> <br /> A regular, semi-monthly meeting of the Council <br />Virginia, was held <br />Building, beginning <br /> <br /> of the City of Martinsville, <br />on November 28, 2000, in Council Chamber of the Municipal <br /> <br /> at 7:33 P. M., with Mayor Mark Crabtree presiding. Council <br /> <br />Members present included: Mark A. Crabtree, Mayor; M. Gene Teague, Vice Mayor; <br />and Council Members Bruce H. T. Dallas, J. Ronald Ferrill, and Terry L. Roop. <br /> <br /> Following the invocation by Council Member Dallas, Mayor Crabtree welcomed <br />everyone to the meeting. <br /> <br /> Michael Rogers, Chief of Police, stated, "When I started as Chief, I was five <br />officers short. There was a significant increase in crime. On February 15, 2000, we <br />met with the Virginia State Police and explained our needs. There is no...way I could <br />have ever imagined I'd receive such support. We're still short a few officers, but it was <br />one of the quietest summers ever, and we've neady cleared up all shootings." Chief <br />Rogers, along with Earl B. Reynolds, Jr., City Manager, made presentations to Colonel <br />W. Gerald Massengill, Captain Charles R. Compton, Jr., and First Sergeant Howard L. <br />Honaker of the Virginia State Police; Robert P. Crouch, United States Attorney; Bart H. <br />McEntire, Resident Agent in Charge, Division of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Fireams; and <br />Director Steven Sigel, Division of Forensic Science. Chief Rogers added, 'Td also like <br />to recognize Martinsville's Commonwealth Attorney Joan Ziglar, City Sheriff Steve <br />Draper and Henry County Sheriff Frank Cassell, City Manager Ead Reynolds, and <br />Police Lieutenant Marshall Thomas." Mayor Crabtree stated, "On behalf of all citizens, <br />thank you for coming into the job running." <br /> <br /> Council Member Dallas moved to adopt the following Resolution, which was <br /> accepted by Gil Carter of BB&T; the motion was duly seconded and carded by the <br /> <br /> <br />
