<br />2~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 21. 1961 <br />--""---..0, ",,,--"':-'_ <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting, as directed by City COl:mil during its regular <br /> <br />meeting of February 16, 1961, was he Id in the Council ChaJTlber, City Hall, Tuesday, <br /> <br />Febn,ary 21, 1961, at 1:00 P.M., for the purpose of discussing .with members of the <br /> <br />Board of Directors of the Forest Park Country Club matters involving the obtaining <br /> <br />by the Cit.y of an easement to construct a sewer line (Mulberry Creek Interceptor) <br /> <br />across portions of the Forest Park Country Club property. All members of Council <br /> <br />- <br /> <br />were present, viz., Mayor und Councilman J. Frank Wilson, presiding; Vice-Mayor and <br /> <br />C01illc:.lman Fred T. Renick; and Councilmen Thomas J. Burch, E. E. Stone, and Harry L. <br /> <br />Boaz. <br /> <br />Rppre,'entatives of the Forest Park C01mtry Club present vrare: Messrs. Vi. T. Turner, <br /> <br />President; Horace G. IY.fer; Jack F. Hankins; Charles E. Hundley; George L. Nease; <br /> <br />George E. Morris, Sr.; and O. F. Thomasson. These representatives presented the <br /> <br />follO\ving written proposal on behalf of their Board of Directors, and during the <br /> <br />disclillsion follovdng its presentation insisted that the method or procedure outlined <br /> <br />therein be accented by the Council: <br /> <br />,.....-, <br /> <br />The Board of Directors of the Forest Park Country Club has had numerous <br />meetings and discussions concerning the request by the City of Martinsville <br />that we grant an easement across our property for the right-of-way of the <br />proposed Mulberry Creek sewer line. As of tnis date we have had no official <br />offering from the City of liIartins vi lIe concernin[; damages, nor have we been <br />given an opportunity to make suggestions concerning the conditions as con- <br />tained in the easement. We feel that the contents of the easement and <br />ch~1ges therein must be ascertained prior to the fir~l determination of <br />dama~:es resultinr: trzere L'ro::n. <br /> <br />~r{e are a\'fare of the fact that the Council of the City of Martinsville <br />is dealing with public funds and as such does not feel thst it is their <br />duty to offer a proposal far damages. We would like to point out, hooever, <br />that the Board of Directors of the Forest Parle: Gountry Club is a body <br />electE~d by the membership to serve gratis, and one of our many duties is to <br />protect and preserve the assets of the club. As such, we do not feel that <br />we have the right to do anything to dissipate the assets of the Forost Park <br />C oun try Club. <br /> <br />We wish to point out at this timo t.lJ.at it is the unanimous opinion of <br />the Board of Directors of the Forest Park Counir.f Club that to properJy <br />fulfill our dutie.s in the preservation of the assets of the club, we should <br />
