<br />20! <br /> <br />THURS DAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 1, 1960 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, an organizational meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, Thursday, September 1, <br /> <br />1960, at 9:00 A.M. All members of Council were present, viz., Thomas J. Burch <br /> <br />ani J. Frank Wilson, whose terIll3 of office expire August 31,1962; and Harry L. <br /> <br />Boaz, Dr. Fred T. Renick, and E. E. Stone (incumbent), recently elected or <br /> <br />re-elected to four-year terms beglnning September 1, 1960. <br /> <br />Mr. Jesse D. Clift, Clerk of Martinsville City Circuit Court, presided at this <br /> <br />meeting and, first, administered the required oaths of office to Councilmen <br /> <br />Boaz, Renick, am Stone. Upon nomination by Councilman Burch, am seconded by <br /> <br />Courcilman Renick, (there being no other nominations), Councilman J. Frank <br /> <br />Wilson was elected Mayor for a two-year term beginning September 1, 1960. Upon <br /> <br />motion by Councilman Burch, and seconded by Councilman Renick, Councilman Stone <br /> <br />was nominated for the position of Vice-Mayor; however, Coumilman Stone requested <br /> <br />that his name and the motion be withdrawn; whereupon motion by Councilman Boaz, <br /> <br />and seconded by Councilman Burch, Coumilman F. T. Renick was elected to the <br /> <br />position of Vice-Mayor for a two-year term beginning September 1, 1960. <br /> <br />Cou."'lCil then unanimously reappointed Attorney Claude E. Ta;ylor, Jr., as City <br /> <br />Attorney, and W. H. Yeaman as Clerk of Council. <br /> <br />After an expression from Ma;yor Wilson, followed by brief cormnents by City Manager <br /> <br />Hirst, Council adjourned. <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />w.
