<br />174 <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY <br /> <br />NOVEMBER 17, 1965 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called ~eeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Wednesday, November <br /> <br />17, 1965, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 12 o'clock noon, <br /> <br />all members being present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Dr. F. T. Renick, <br /> <br />Vice-Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Mayor Wilson stated the purpose of this special <br /> <br />meeting, viz., to consider--and/or act upon--the applications received <br /> <br />for the position of City Manager for the City of Martinsville, from which <br /> <br />position former City Manager Julian F. Hirst resigned as of October 14, <br /> <br />1965, to become City Manager of the City of Roanoke, Virginia. Following <br /> <br />this statement of purpose, Mayor Wilson announced that the Council, having <br /> <br />received and considered sorne forty-five applications (representing twenty- <br /> <br />two states), unanimously appointed Mr. Thomas B. Noland, Sr., presently <br /> <br />Town Manager of the Town of PUlaski, Virginia, as City Manager of the City <br /> <br />of Martinsville, effective January 1, 1966, at a salary of $13,500.00 per <br /> <br />year. <br /> <br />Mr. Noland, who was present at this meeting, in accepting this appointment, <br /> <br />responded with an expression of appreciation of the confidence and trust <br /> <br />exemplified by Council's selection of him as City Manager and, further, <br /> <br />indicated his every effort toward responsibly discharging the duties of <br /> <br />this position. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />~,J <br />W.
