<br />3~ <br /> <br />MARCH 5, 1955 <br /> <br />. TUESDAY <br /> <br />The re gular semi-monthly me eting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Vir ginia, <br /> <br />with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on <br /> <br />Tuesday, March 8, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, being present: Mayor <br /> <br />and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; and Councilmen C. P. Craig, B. H. Hill, W. T. Turner, <br /> <br />and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Coureil meeting held February 22, 1955 and of the special Council <br /> <br /> <br />meeting held March 3, 1955, upon being read, were approved. <br /> <br />Mayor Hodnett, through City Manager Mathewson, presented to Council his draft of a <br /> <br />letter to be sent out to the :City's Tax Study Advisory Group, notifying the group or <br /> <br />committee that Dr. J. D. Lucas, Dean of Students at the University of Chicago Law <br /> <br />~:~ <br />~~ <br />i <br /> <br />School and consultant to the committee, will meet in Martinsville with the committee <br /> <br />this forthcoming March 21st-22nd. N~yor Hodnett advised the group that he has appointed <br /> <br />Councilmen Craig, Hill, and Turner to sit wi th the group in a liaison capacity. The <br /> <br />letter and plan of procedure, as outlined by the Mayor, were approved by Council. <br /> <br />Mr. J. Ford Burgess, of this City, appeared before Council and inquired whether he <br /> <br />might have the option of complying with the City's proposed subdivision ordinance and <br /> <br />be reimbursed in accordance therewith--in lieu of complying just with existing sub- <br /> <br />division regulations--in developing his subdivision known as Burgess Court. Council <br /> <br />indicated favorable action on Mr. Burgess' proposal, pending working out details <br /> <br />between him and City Manager Mathewson. <br /> <br />In response to Mr. J. S. Hackler's request of February 23, 1955, Council granted Mr. <br /> <br />Hackler permission to construct and install a six-inch water line for a distance of <br /> <br />approximately 550 feet along Pumphouse Road (connecting the six-inch water mains on <br /> <br />
