<br />~10 <br /> <br />TUE..S DAY <br /> <br />1.WtCH 23, 1954 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the CitJr of Martimville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mqror R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, Barch 23, 1954, at 7:30 P.M., with all members, as <br /> <br />follows, being present: Mqror and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Cour:cilmen <br /> <br />C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, Vf. T. Turner, and J. fl.. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held March 9, 1954, upon being read, <br />were approved. <br /> <br />:Mr. Noel Smith, owner-operator of Starling Avenue Esso Service Station (903 <br />Starling Avenue), appeared before Council and requested a proration of his <br />City business license tax. due and beginning May 1, 1954 for the period May 1st <br />to July 15, 1954 inasnuch as he must discontinue his business at that location <br />on said July 15th and will not be able, therefore, to ODerate his business for <br />the full license ta.,<: year. Without waiving any of the provisions of the license <br />tax ordinance, Council referred this matter to City Attorney Stone and City <br />~ommissioner of the Revenue Egf,leston. <br /> <br />The following interim report of the Council's Special Business License Tax <br /> <br />Study Committee was accepted, with Council concurring in the Comlllittee's <br /> <br />opinion that Dr. Roland EerIer, Director of the Bureau of Public Administration <br />of the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Virginia, be requested to <br />prepare a ffiemorandmn report to the Committee of trends in business tax rate <br />relationships, recent studies of which indicate some revisions of the local <br />license tax rate structure might be in order: <br /> <br />J <br />
