<br />~06 <br /> <br />MONDAY <br /> <br />MARCH 1, 1954 <br /> <br />A special and du~-called meeting, pursuant to the follmving notice, of <br /> <br />Martinsville City Council was held in the City Manager's Office, after having <br /> <br />been adjourned from the Council Chamber, City Hall, Monday, March 1, 1954, at <br /> <br />7:30 P.M.: <br /> <br />To: <br />Subject: <br /> <br />W. H. Yeaman, Clerk of Council <br />Special Council Meeting <br /> <br />You are hereby directed to notify each member of Martinsville City Council <br />of a special meeting of the Council, called pursuant to Section 5(a) of <br />Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, to be held in the <br />Council Chamber, City Hall, Monday, March 1, 195L~, at 7:30 P.M., for the <br />purpose of discussing and formulating plans and procedures in connection <br />with the 1954 re-appraisal and re-assessment of real estate in the City of <br />Mar tinsvi lIe . You are also directed to request the presence at this <br />meeting of W~. Fred C. Forberg, Director of Appraisals and Mapping for the <br />State Department of Taxation; Mr. Overton Hubbard, Jr., Appraiser from the <br />State Department of Taxation; Messrs. iVhitney Shumate and Sam Hedgecock, <br />members of the local 1954 Board of Assessors; Acting City Attorney Hannibal <br />N. Joyce; and Commissioner of the Revenue T. Jeff Eggleston; and tu invite <br />the presence of representatives of the local press and radio. <br /> <br />Given under our hands this twenty-sixth day of February, 1954, at 11:00 A.M. <br /> <br />Rieves S. Hodnett, Mayor <br />Kent Mathewson, City Manager <br /> <br />All members of Council, as follows, were present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. <br /> <br />Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />In addition, the following invited persons were present: 1~. Fred Forberg, <br /> <br />Director of Appraisals and Mapping for the State Department of Taxation; Mr. <br /> <br />Overton Hubbard, Jr., Appraiser from the State Departm:mt of Taxation; Messrs. <br /> <br />Whitney Shumate and Sam Hedgecock, 1954 Board of Assessors; Acting City Attorney <br /> <br />Hannibal N. Joyce; and Commissioner of Revenue T. Jeff Eggleston. <br /> <br />In line with the purpose of this meeting, the Council discussed with these guests <br /> <br />various aspects of the forthcoming re-appraisal and re-assessment of real estate in <br /> <br />1~tinsville, deciding to appraise such real estate at its 1950 appraisal base. <br /> <br />Council was adjourned. <br /> <br />w.
