<br />14 <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 8, 1957 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City ~ Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, a special and d~-called meeting of the Council was held in the Coumil <br />Chamber, City Hall, on Wednesday, May 8, 1957, for the purpose of considering the <br />setting of and/or the setting of a new date for the school bond election origir18-11y <br />called for May 21, 1957. Present were Kayor aniCouroilman John W. Shultz, <br />presiding; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. Stone; and Coun:i1mlIn B. H. Hill and <br /> <br />Clarence C. Donavant. Councilman J. R. Walker was absent because or illness but <br /> <br />acknCM'ledged receipt of due notice or the meeting. Also present were members and <br /> <br />representatives of the City School Board. <br /> <br />Upon being informed by City A ttDrney Stone that the requirement of Section 2 of <br />Chapter 11 of the Ci tyCharter, with respec t to the preparation and filing of <br />the list of qualified registered voters owning real estate in the City of <br /> <br />m'" <br />~g.", <br />~"" <br />j <br /> <br />lIartinsville, had not been met because of the pressure of unusually heavy work- <br /> <br />loads in the offices of the Treasurer and the Commissioner of Revenue, Council set <br /> <br />the date of Friday, May 31, 1957 for the holding of the bond election by unanimously- <br />and by recorded vote-adopt~ the follOlrlng ordinance: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A NEW DATE OF FRIDAY, VAY 31, 1957 FOR THE HOLDING <br />OF A SCHOOL BOND ElECTION PREVIOOSLY SCHEDUIED FOR TUESDAY, MAY 21, 1957. <br /> <br />/'~ <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on April 23, 1957, and in accordance with applicable provisions of <br />the Charter of the City of Martinsvi1le, llartinsville City Council adopted <br />an ordinance authorizing the issuance of $2,200,000 of bonds of the City of <br />Martinsville to finance the cost of constructing, enlarging, reconstructing <br />and equipping school buildings and acquiring and grading lands necessary <br />therefor and providing for the submission of the question of issuing said <br />bonds to the qualified voters of said city; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Circuit Court of the City of lIartinsville duly entered an order <br />calling for a special election to be held on May 21, 1957 on the question of <br />issuing $2 ,200,000 in 'City of Martinsville negotiable bonds for the purposes <br />set forth in the ordinance adopted April 23, 1957; and <br />
