<br />142 <br /> <br />FRIDAY <br /> <br />APRIL 26, 1957 <br /> <br />Pursuant to Section 5 of Chapter II of the City Charter a special meeting was <br /> <br />called and held by Martinsville City Council on Friday, April 26, 1957, at 7 :30 <br /> <br />P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, for the purpose 'of discussing methods <br /> <br />of financing the proposed school bond issue and school building program. Present <br /> <br />were Vice-Mayor and Councilman John W. Shultz, presiding in the absence of Mayor <br /> <br />Woodson (who was ill), and Councilmen B. H. Hill, E. E. Stone, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />After revie'wing the information, in connection with subject matter, as presented <br /> <br />to Council during its regular meeting held April 23, 1957, and upon motion of <br /> <br />Councilman Hill, seconded by Cour:c ilman Stone, Council unanimously instructed <br /> <br />City Attorney Stone and City Manager Hirst to prepare ordinances which will provide <br /> <br />for the imposing of a service charge of $1.00 per month on each monthly city <br /> <br />utility bill and, also, to provide for the increasing of the local real estate <br /> <br />and public service corporation tax rate from $2.00 to $2.25 as the method which <br /> <br />Council favors of financing the school building program, which ordinances are <br /> <br />to be presented to the Council at its first meeting immediately fol1oYV'ing the <br /> <br />May 21st school bond election. <br /> <br /> <br />'--"--- <br /> <br />, Clerk of Council <br /> <br />ADDENDUM <br /> <br />Aforementioned service charge terminology corrected to read "special tax" <br />ref Council's May 14th meeting. <br /> <br />,I <br />
