<br />446 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />A PR IL.J.Q.z-lJ62 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />V:irginia, with Mayor J. ]?rank Wilson presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, April 10, 1962, at 7:15 P.M., all members being present, <br /> <br />viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick; Thomas J. Burch; E. E. <br /> <br />S tone; and Harry L. Boaz. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held March 27,1%2. <br /> <br />In appreciation and recognition of the faithful service rendered by Mr. Harry <br /> <br />Arthur Smith, Electric Hydro-Plant Operator since March 16, 1939, Council <br /> <br />acknowledged the retirement of Mr. Smith on March 31, 1962. <br /> <br />In acceptance of the following report of the Board of Viewers duly appointed to <br /> <br />cons ider a petition (recently presented through Attorney Charles L. McC ormick, III, <br /> <br />on behali' of Mr. W. Elmo Haynes) requesting the closing and vacating of Azalea <br /> <br />Street, <br /> <br />unopened and lying northeast and parallel of and to Mulberry Road, <br />orderJthe :reduction of the present forty-foot right-of-way to twenty <br />" <br /> <br />C ounei 1 <br /> <br />feet, allowing for proper hIrn into Hope Street, such portion not being included <br /> <br />in the reduced right-of-way to be vacated and abandoned to the adjoining <br /> <br />property owners: <br /> <br />We, the undersigned, having been duly-appointed by your body as a <br />Board of Viewers and having viewed Azalea Street, to which petition <br />for vacation has been submitted, do hereby report to you as to our <br />findirgs. <br /> <br />It is our oplnlon that public inc onvenience would result from the <br />vacation of this street right-of-way by the City. This inconvenience <br />would be as fo llows : <br />1. The Azalea Street right-of-way could in the future serve valuably <br />in providing access for the public to south portion of City Park. <br />If the right-of...;way were vacated we do not feel an equally satis- <br />factory access could be secured in this vicini t-y. <br />
