<br />124 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 9. 1960 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, 1.rith Mayor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, Tuesday, February 9, 1960, at 6:30 P.M., all members being present <br /> <br />with the ~{ception of Councilman Clarence C. Donavant, viz., Mayor and <br /> <br />Councilman John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor and Councilman E. E. Stone; and <br /> <br />Councilmen Thomas J. Burch and J. Frank Wilson. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held January 26, 1960. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing on <br /> <br />the proposal that all that property and area annexed to the City as of January 1, <br /> <br />1960 be zoned and classified for zoning purposes as "A-1 Residential". There <br /> <br />being no objections registered by anyone, Council adopted the following ordinance <br /> <br />effecting said zoning and, thereqy, amending the City's Zoning Code and Zoning 1~: <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, <br />in regular meeting assembled this ninth day of February, 1960, that <br />the City's Zoning Code and Zoning Map be and is hereby amended to <br />classify as "A-1 Residential", for zoning purposes, all that property <br />annexed to the City of Martinsville by Court Order made effective <br />J anuar:v 1, 1960. <br /> <br />An emergency existing, this ordinance shall be in force from date of <br />passage. <br /> <br />Mrs. J. P. (Elizabeth) Dempsey appeared before Council and reviewed developments <br /> <br />concerning the change in elevation of an alleyway off Minor Street which Mrs. Dempsey <br /> <br />claimed has adversely affected her use of the alleyway. Council asked that City <br /> <br />Attorney T~vlor advise Council as to its responsibility, if any, in this matter. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council placed on first <br /> <br />reading the following proposed ordinance which would amend Section 2-4 of Chapter 2, <br /> <br />J <br />
