<br /> <br />~-, <br /> <br />..-- <br />( <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />3E <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />J1ThTE 23. 1959 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with M9.yor John W. Shultz presiding, was held in the Council <br />Chamber, City Hall, Tuesday, June 23, 1959, at 6:30 P.M., all members being <br /> <br />present, as follows: Mayor John W. Shultz; Vice-Mayor E. E. stone; and <br /> <br />Messrs. Thomas J. Burch and Clarence C. Donavant. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as read the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held June 9, 1959 and of its special meeting held June 16, 1959. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously approved, Council directed that <br /> <br /> <br />consideration of proposed anti-noise code revisions and/or regulations be <br /> <br />"tabled", i.e., to remove this item from the Council agenda until requested <br /> <br />by Council to return same to the agenda. <br /> <br />Council continued the City Manager IS proposed 1959-60 budget, pending a <br /> <br />called public hearing scheduled for June 30, 1959. <br /> <br />City Manager Hirst announced the appointment of 11r'. Uoyd G. Jordan, of the <br /> <br />City School System, as Director of Recreation, succeeding Mt'. James E. Iaughlin <br /> <br />who has been appointed principal of Patrick Henry Elementary School. Council <br /> <br />instructed its Clerk to convey by letter to Mt'. Iaughlin an expression of <br /> <br />Council's appreciation of the fine direction he has given the recreation <br /> <br />program of the City and of the progress and accomplishments of the department <br /> <br />under hi.s direction. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council directed City <br /> <br />Treasuren" William R.
