<br />~12 <br /> <br />T:-1URSDAY <br /> <br />SEPTEMBER 17, 1964 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Thursday, September <br /> <br />17, 1964 (in lieu of the regularly-scheduled meeting for September 22, 1964), <br /> <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members being <br /> <br /> <br />present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T. Renick, M.D.; Harry <br /> <br />L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone. <br /> <br />'- <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held September 8, 1964. <br /> <br />Pursuant to Council's acceptance on March 24, 1964, of an offer from representatives <br /> <br />of the John R. Smith Estate, for the acquisition of the Smith Estate property on the <br /> <br />south side of West Church Street, and in accordance with terms of the acceptance <br /> <br />agreement, it was reported to Council that Mayor Wilson and Council's Clerk <br /> <br />(and Director of Finance) on September 11, 1964, executed two notes payable to the <br /> <br /> <br />Smith Estate and due in equal aTIlOunts of $61,250.00 in each of the years 1965 and <br /> <br /> <br />1966, representing balance due after the City's initial payment of $52,500.00; whereupon, <br /> <br /> <br />Council unanirrlously ratified the executing of these notes by Mayor Wilson and the <br /> <br />Clerk. <br /> <br />By deed dated September 10, 196L, Council accepted a ten-foot strip of land, <br /> <br />extending along the west side of Bridge Street to its intersection with Memorial <br /> <br />Boulevard, as shown on map entitled "Record Plat -- Boddie-Noell Enterprises!!, <br /> <br /> <br />prepared by W. C. Brown, C.L.S., under date of August 27, 1964, this strip of land <br /> <br />being that deE:cribed in proposal presented to Council on June 9, 1964, by Burch- <br /> <br /> <br />Hodges-Stone, Inc., and providing for the widening of Bridge Street along the <br /> <br />Bridge Street frontage of the Boddie-Noell property. <br />
