<br />,..-- <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />f <br /> <br />SATURDAY <br /> <br />SEPrEMEER 1. 1962 <br /> <br />Ptn-suant to Section 5 of Chapter 2 of the Charter of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, an organizational meeting of Martinsville City Council was held in <br /> <br />the Council Chamber, City Hall, Saturday, September 1, 1962, at 9:00 A.H. <br /> <br />1-1embers present were: Harry L. Boaz, Thomas J. Burch, E. E. Stone, and <br /> <br />J. Frank Wilson--Dr. Fred T. Renick being out of town on vacation. <br /> <br />Under date of June 14, 1962, the Commissioners of the councilmanic election <br /> <br />held the second Tuesday in June, 1962, certified that Messrs. J. Frank Wilson <br /> <br />and Thomas J. Burch received the highest number of votes for the offices of <br /> <br />councilmen and were duly elected as members of Martinsville City Council for <br /> <br />four-year terms beginning September 1, 1962. The following is a copy of that <br /> <br />portion of the Co~z.dssioners' report pertaining to votes cast in said election: <br /> J. Frank i>li1son . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 250 votes; <br /> Thomas J. Burch . . . . . . . . . . . . . 143 votes; and <br /> S. E. Shumate . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1 vote. <br /> <br />After administering the prescribed oaths of office to Councilmen Burch and Wilson, <br /> <br />City Circuit Court Clerk Je."se D. Clift presided over the meeting for the election <br /> <br />of Hayor and Vice-Mayor wherein Counci1Jnan J. Frank 1-1ilson was unanimously elected <br /> <br />to the office of Hs.yor for a two-year term ending August 31, 1964, and Councilman <br /> <br />Fred T. Renick was unanimously elected to the office of Vice-Mayor for a two-year <br /> <br />term ending August 31, 1964. <br /> <br />Upon motions, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council reappointed Attorney <br /> <br />I.
