<br />18 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 27. 1967 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Iterick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 27, <br /> <br />1967, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members of <br /> <br />Council being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone; <br /> <br />Mr. Harry L. Boaz; Mr. W. Donald Hartford; and Mr. Francis T. West. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular <br /> <br />meeting held June 13, 1967. <br /> <br />Before proceeding with its regular order of business, Council acknowledged the <br /> <br />presence of Miss Gaynelle Haley, the current "Miss Martinsville-Henry Countyll, <br /> <br />who was congratulated upon her recently being chosen to represent this area and <br /> <br />(who) was extended Council's best wishes as a contestant in the forthcoming <br /> <br />"Miss Virginia Pageantt'. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following <br /> <br />utility tax crdinance, as placed on first reading June 13, 1967, and as revised, <br /> <br />being a revision of similar ordinance adopted February 23, 1965, and by which the <br /> <br />utility tax heretofore imposed by the City on its electric utility customers-- <br /> <br />as well as regulations relating thereto--will be applicable to all electric energy <br /> <br />consumers or customers within the City, i.e., those consumers supplied electric <br /> <br />service by other than the City's Electric Department: <br /> <br />BE IT OItDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE <br /> <br />1. STATEMENT OF POLICY - It is the purpose and policy of the City of Martinsville <br />in enacting this ordinance imposing a tax on the users of electricity and <br />water within the City of Martinsville to equalize, as far as practicable, <br />the burden of taxation among its citizens. <br /> <br />2. DEFINITIONS: The following words and phrases, when used in this ordinance, <br />shall, for the purpose of this ordiGance, have the following respective <br />meanings except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning. <br />
