18 TUESDAY JUNE 27. 1967 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Iterick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, June 27, 1967, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members of Council being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor E. E. Stone; Mr. Harry L. Boaz; Mr. W. Donald Hartford; and Mr. Francis T. West. After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its regular meeting held June 13, 1967. Before proceeding with its regular order of business, Council acknowledged the presence of Miss Gaynelle Haley, the current "Miss Martinsville-Henry Countyll, who was congratulated upon her recently being chosen to represent this area and (who) was extended Council's best wishes as a contestant in the forthcoming "Miss Virginia Pageantt'. Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council adopted the following utility tax crdinance, as placed on first reading June 13, 1967, and as revised, being a revision of similar ordinance adopted February 23, 1965, and by which the utility tax heretofore imposed by the City on its electric utility customers-- as well as regulations relating thereto--will be applicable to all electric energy consumers or customers within the City, i.e., those consumers supplied electric service by other than the City's Electric Department: BE IT OItDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE 1. STATEMENT OF POLICY - It is the purpose and policy of the City of Martinsville in enacting this ordinance imposing a tax on the users of electricity and water within the City of Martinsville to equalize, as far as practicable, the burden of taxation among its citizens. 2. DEFINITIONS: The following words and phrases, when used in this ordinance, shall, for the purpose of this ordiGance, have the following respective meanings except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning.
