1 f

.... I

TUESDAY

FEBRUARY 22, 1966

-

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville,

Virginia, with Mayor J. Frank Wilson presiding, was held Tuesday, February

22, 1966, beginning at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chamber, City Hall, with

all members being present, viz., Mayor J. Frank Wilson; Vice-Mayor Fred T.

Renick, M.D.; Harry L. Boaz; Thomas J. Burch; and E. E. Stone.

After the invocation, Council approved as recorded the minutes of its

regular meeting held February 8, 1966.

Pursuant to duly-advertised notice, Council conducted a public hearing on

the Appalachian Power Company's petition (submitted through Attorney W. R.

Broaddus, III, Counsel) requesting the rezoning of its property on the north

side of Dudley street, in North Martinsville, to IlM-2 Industrial". And, there

being no objections registered to this proposed rezoning and having the prior

approval of the Planning Commission as to the proposal, Council unanimously

adopted the following ordinance effecting said rezoning and amending the City's

Zoning Code and Zoning Map:

BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia,
in regular meeting assembled this twenty-second day of February, 1966,
that the Zoning Code and the Zoning Map of the City of Martinsville
be, and are, hereby amended to reclassify--for zoning purposes--to
"1'1-2 Industrial" those certain properties owned by Appalachian Power
Company and more specifically identified as the western half of
Lot 16 and all of Lots 17 and 18 of the A. M. Dudley Estate Sub-
division, situated on north side of Dudley Street in North
Martinsville.

Council noted with regrets--but with grateful acknowledgment of his many

outstanding services to the City--the death on February 21st of Mr. Whitney

Shumate, who only recently had been appointed and had accepted the assignment

to membership on the 1966 Board of Assessors. Mr. Shumate's death and

Mr. Clarence C. Donavant's recent resignation nullified their having been

appointed to this Board; whereupon Council nominated Messrs. R. A. Henderson,Jr.,
