<br />18 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />FEBRUARY 23, 1971 <br /> <br />,/- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D., presiding, was held Tuesday, <br /> <br />February 23, 1971, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 <br /> <br />P.M., all members--with the exception of Councilman William D. Hobson, who <br /> <br />was out of town--being present, viz., Mayor F. T. Renick, M.D.; Vice-Mayor <br /> <br />Francis T. West; Harry L. Boaz; and W. Donald Hartford. <br /> <br />,-< <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held February 9, 1971. <br /> <br />Before considering its regular agenda for this meeting, Council and Mayor <br /> <br />Renick extended a warm welcome to visitors present, with a special welcome <br /> <br />to members of the Collinsville Exchange Club who expressed appreciation for <br /> <br />their being permitted, as a Henry County civic group, to attend and indicate <br /> <br />their general interest in the proceedings. <br /> <br /><- <br /> <br />Council gave further consideration to the petition filed September 25, 1970, <br /> <br />by Mrs. Evelyn H. Stone, Trustee, requesting the rezoning to "R-9 Residential" <br /> <br />of petitioner's 78-acre tract of land, located between Rives Road Extension <br /> <br />and the Norfolk & Western Railway Company, and on which petition Council <br /> <br />conducted a duly-advertised public hearing at its regular meeting held <br /> <br />February 9, 1971. After some discussion between the Council and the <br /> <br />representative of petitioner, wherein petitioner indicated that a delay of <br /> <br />several months might not be detrimental to petitioner's interest, Council <br /> <br />agreed to "table" this matter for a few months to afford further investigation <br /> <br />by petitioner, with probable assistance from the Industrial Development <br /> <br />Division of the Norfolk & Western Railway CompanY7 to ascertain if there be <br />
