<br />3~ <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JANUARY 28, 1975 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor Harry L. Boaz presiding, was held Tuesday, January 28, <br /> <br />1975, in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Harry L. Boaz, Mayor; William D. Hobson, Vice-Mayor; <br /> <br />G. S. Fitz-Hugh, Jr.; Barry A. Greene; and Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved--as recorded--the minutes of its <br /> <br />regular meeting held January 14, 1975. <br /> <br />Pursuant to duly-advertised public notice, Council conducted a public hearing <br /> <br />on a petition filed November 12, 1974, by Sale Knitting, Division of Tully <br /> <br />Corporation of Virginia, requesting the vacating, closing and abandonment of <br /> <br />Fontaine Street, which is surrounded by petitioner's property. Representing <br /> <br />petitioner were Mr. M. Harrison Joyce, Attorney at Law, and Mr. E. M. Linker, <br /> <br />Plant Engineer. There being no objections registered by anyone to this request, <br /> <br />and in acceptance of the Planning Commission's report and recommendation dated <br /> <br />December 31, 1974, including the recommended abandonment of a fifteen-foot <br /> <br />drainage easement crossing Fontaine Street to Commonwealth Boulevard, near <br /> <br />Franklin Street, Council unanimously adopted the following ordinance effecting <br /> <br />said closing and easement abandonment, with authorization and directive <br /> <br />included therein to the Clerk of Martinsville Circuit Court to so mark his <br /> <br />records: <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ABANDONMENT, CLOSING AND VACATING OF <br />A STREET IDENTIFIED AS FONTAINE STREET, LYING WITHIN AND SURROUNDED <br />BY PROPERTY OWNED BY TULLY CORPORATION OF VIRGINIA, SALE KNITTING <br />DIVISION, SITUATED NORTH OF COMMONWEALTH BOULEVARD AND EAST OF FRANKLIN <br />STREET; AND PROVIDING FOR THE ABANDONMENT OF A FIFTEEN-FOOT DRAINAGE <br />EASEMENT CROSSING SAID FONTAINE STREET TO COMMONWEALTH BOULEVARD, NEAR <br />FRANKLIN STREET. <br />
