<br />1 .1 <br />. ,'" <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />JUNE 26, 1973 <br /> <br />,,"'-- <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor Francis T. West presiding, was held Tuesday, June 26, 1973, <br /> <br />in the Council Chamber, City Hall, beginning at 7:30 P.M., all members <br /> <br />being present, viz., Francis T. West, Mayor; Harry L. Boaz; Vice Mayor; <br /> <br />W. Donald Hartford; William D. Hobson; and Morton W. Lester. <br /> <br />After the invocation, Council approved (as recorded, with clarification of <br /> <br />,- <br /> <br />reference in minutes of Council's meeting held June 12, 1973, to deferred <br /> <br />construction of curb-and-gutter in connection with development of the <br /> <br />Chatham Heights recreational facility) minutes of its regular meeting held <br /> <br />June 12, 1973, and of its special meeting held June 19, 1973. <br /> <br />Before beginning its regular order of business, Council presented to <br /> <br />Mr. James Edward Barrow, recently retired (because of disability) from <br /> <br />the Fire Department after thirty-two years service, a token of appreciation <br /> <br />and recognition of Mr. Barrow's long and faithful tenure. <br /> <br />Mayor West then informed Council that the City has received numerous <br /> <br />complimentary expressions from various cities on City Manager Noland's <br /> <br />Budget Message for the forthcoming fiscal year. <br /> <br />Upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously carried, Council reappointed <br /> <br />Messrs. Worth H. Carter and William W. Edwards, Jr., to membership on the <br /> <br />City School Board for new three-year terms beginning July 1, 1973. <br /> <br />Council unanimously accepted with gratitude and appreciation a check in the <br /> <br />amount of $33,000.00, representing donation of this sum to the City's <br /> <br />recreational facilities development (re: Southside Park) by the Martinsville <br /> <br />Community Recreation Association. <br />
