AGENDA
CITY COUNCIL MEETING
CITY OF MARTINSVILLE, VIRGINIA

Council Chambers - Municipal Building
7:30 P.M. - Tuesday, January 23, 2001

II.

III.

IV.

Invocation - Mayor Mark A. Crabtree

Consider approval of minutes of City Council's meeting of January
9, 2001. (See Enclosure #1)

Business from the floor.

Consider adoption of a Resolution requesting $25,000 in Industrial
Site Development Funds from the Virginia Department of Housing
and Community Development for a proposed new regional indus-
trial site in cooperation with Henry and Patrick Counties.
(See Enclosure #2)

COMMENTS: Mr. Kevin Reed will attend the meeting to present
this proposal. This planning grant application will require a
$38,000 match in local funds to be shared as follows: Henry
County-50%, Martinsville-25% and Patrick County-25%. We
recommend that Council adopt this Resolution as prepared.

Consider adoption of a Resolution in support of inmate labor
through the Virginia Department of Corrections for work on those
sections of Route 650 (Spruce Street) within the City Limits.
(See Enclosure #3)

COMMENTS: As you will recall from your last meeting, the City
has been approached by Barry Kanode, Superintendent of the
Patrick Henry Correctional Unit (Camp 28) regarding inmates from
his facility doing some work on State Route 650 of which part is in
the City. The State Code requires that they have permission from
each locality where they do any work. There is no cost involved for
the City, it's all taken care of by the State. Mr. Kanode will attend
your meeting to explain this process. We recommend that Council
adopt this Resolution as prepared.
