64 <br /> <br /> THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1995 <br /> <br />A special and duly-called meeting of the Council of the City of <br />Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor George B. Adams, Jr., presiding, was <br />'held Thursday, November 30, 1995 in Room 200, City Hall, beginning at <br />ll:00.A.M. The following members of Council were present: George B. <br />Adams, Jr., Mayor; Mark A. Crabtree; M. Gene Teague; and Clyde L. <br />Willjams. Absent was Vice-Mayor L. D. Oakes, who was away from the <br />City. <br /> <br />City Manager Earl B. Reynolds, Jr. stated the purpose of the meeting <br />was to review issues related to the upcoming session of the Virginia <br />General Assembly with Ms. Martha Burton, Assistant to the Director of <br />the Crater Planning District Commission. Ms. Burton is the City's <br />legislative liaison. <br /> <br />Ms. Burton provided an informal briefing addressing issues such as the <br />upcoming State budget, educational funding, new accounting standards <br />affecting the liability for funding the Virginia Retirement System, and <br />welfare reform. Ms. Burton also speculated on possible committee <br />assignments for area legislators and responded to numerous issues <br />raised by the members of Council. <br /> <br />There being no other business to discuss, Mayor Adams declared the <br />meeting adjourned. <br /> <br />~G.
