39 THURSDAY NOVEMBER 10, 1955 The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsville, Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, City Hall, on Thursday, November 10, 1955, at 7:30 P.M., this meeting having been postponed from the regular meeting date scheduled for November 8th. All members, with the exception of Councilman Walker, were present, viz., Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; Vice-Mayor and Councilman C. P. Craig; and Councilmen B. H. Hill and VI. T. Turner. ".- Minutes of the regular Council meeting held October 25, 1955 were approved as read. City Manager Mathewson then read to the Council certain correspondence with the State Water Control Board dealing with reports to the Board on the City's progress in obtaining a sewage disposal planning loan. ~~i{ ~~ i By letter of November 2, 1955 the City Planning Cormnission recormnended (1) that the east side of the Old Danvill.e Road between a point 460 feet north of its intersection with Parkview Avenue and a point 1530 feet south of the above mentioned intersection be rezoned from B-1 Business to A-2 Residential zoning and (2) that the west side of the Old Danville Road between the above mentioned points be rezoned from B-1 Business to A-I Residential zoning. Council, in accepting these recommendations, called for a public hearing, va th due advertiserrent thereof, to be held in the Council Chamber on December 13, 1955. As result of an interim report from Planning Conunission Chairman John J. Hartley on the subject "Save Our Downtown Project", in which the Commission recormnended that further study be given this project, Council asked that the Commission recoIlllJ'End procedure as to arranging a "public information" meeting to which representatives of governmental agencies already consulted on this matter rnight be invited to attend and participate.
