<br />~60 <br /> <br />TUESDAY <br /> <br />MAY 24. 1955 <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martin svi lIe , <br /> <br />Virginia, with Hayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, was held in the Circuit Court- <br /> <br />room of the Henri County Courthouse-in accordance with due public notice- <br /> <br />on Tuesday, May 24, 1955, a.t 7:30 P.M., all members of Council being present, <br /> <br />as follows: :Hayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett; and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />B. H. Hill, H. T. Turner, and J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held Hay 10, 1955, were approved as <br /> <br />read. <br /> <br />After welcoming the large group of citizens present for this meeting, Hayor <br /> <br />Hodnett presented City Manager Mathewson who, in tum, presented his reconnnended <br /> <br />1955-56 City Budget to Council, accompanied by his Budget Message in connection <br /> <br />wi th said recommended budget. A SUIIlIIlary of thi s recommended budget is herewith <br /> <br />made a part of these minutes and details are on file with the Council Clerk. <br /> <br />The budget, as reconnnended by the Manager, was placed on first reading and a <br /> <br />public hearing on same ordered held on June 14, 1955 in the Cireni t Courtroom <br /> <br />of the Henry County Courthouse. <br /> <br />Representing the 1-1artinsville Council of Garden Clubs, Mrs. F. P. Turner, Jr. <br />presented on behalf of said Council of Garden Clubs the following summary of <br /> <br />needs and recommendations concerning the City's park on East Church street <br /> <br />Extended, to which recommendations City Council indicated it would give <br /> <br />consideration: <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />(a) <br />(b) <br /> <br />Ci ty to put in curbing on the Oakdale boundary with <br />proper drainage. <br />City to patrol. the park daily. <br /> <br />2. To employ Hr. Bliss, or an equally-qualified arborist, to <br />clear aut necessary trees and secondary growth and under- <br />growth around the picnic and play area. <br />
