<br />l6 <br /> <br />WEDNESDAY <br /> <br />NOVE1ffiER 26, 1952 <br />. <br /> <br />The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Council of the City of Martinsvi11e, <br /> <br />Virginia, with Mayor R. S. Hodnett presiding, having been postponed from the <br />regularly-appointed meeting date of Tuesday, November 25, -1952 because of the <br /> <br />known absence from the City of several of the Councilmen, was held in the Council <br /> <br />Chamber on WedneSday, November 26, 1952, at 7:30 P.M., all members, as follows, <br /> <br />being present: Mayor and Councilman R. S. Hodnett, and Councilmen C. P. Craig, <br /> <br />D. H. Goode, W. T. Turner, and. J. R. Walker. <br /> <br />Minutes of the regular Council meeting held November 11, 1952, upon being read, <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />Council, delaying its regular order of business to hear any visitors present, <br /> <br />received a renewed request from Mr. P. S. Murphy, 112 College Street (this City), <br /> <br />for improved sewerage facilities on College Street. In discussing this matter, <br /> <br />Council asked City Manager Mathewson to furnish the Council with an estimate of <br /> <br />the cost to replace said College Street sewer line(s). <br /> <br />City Manager Mathewson next reported some traffic changes which he proposes to <br /> <br />institute in the very near future in an effort to improve both pedestrian and <br /> <br />vehicular traffic on East Main (at Walnut Street), Ford, Swanson, and Franklin <br /> <br />Streets. <br /> <br />In the final item of business, Council received from local Attorney John Hartley, <br /> <br />representing local theater management, a plea for a substantial reduction in or <br /> <br />complete removal of local amusement admission taxes. Council, however, took no <br /> <br />action other than to acknowledge Mr. Hartley's excellent presentation and to assure <br />
