Walker presiding, was held in the Council Chamber, <br /> <br />City Hall, on Tuesday, August 12, 1952, at 7:30 o'clock P. M., all members, <br /> <br />as follcws, being present: Mayor and Councilman J. R. Walker, a~d Coumilmen <br /> <br />R. S. Brown, Jr., C. P. Craig, R. S. Hodnett, an:! W. T. Turner. <br /> <br />Mirmtes of the regular Council meeting held July 22, 1952, upon being read, <br /> <br />were approved. <br /> <br />Council deferred its regular order of business to hear from Mr. W. R. Broaddus, <br /> <br />Jr., Attorney, who petitiored Council, on behalf of Wesmart Corporation, Martinsville, <br /> <br />Virginia, to abandon Matt street. 'Ihe formal petition presented by Mr. Broaddus <br /> <br />was. as fo llows : <br /> <br />TO THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE: <br /> <br />Your petitioner, Wesmart Corporation, begs to show unto the Council of the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, that by deed dated the 3rd day of October, <br />1950, recorded in the Clerk 's Office of the Circuit Court of the City of <br />Martimville, in Deed Book 21, page 306, Elizabeth stuart Janes Grant and <br />her husband conveyed to your petitioner certain real estate situated in the <br />City of Martinsville, Virginia, including therein Lots #67, 68, 69, 70, 71, <br />72, 73, 74, 75, and 76, inclusive, all fronting on the southwest side of <br />u. s. Highway #220 right-of-way and as shown on map of the same prepared by <br />H. S. Peirce, dated October 28, 1949, which map has never been recorded in <br />any Clerk's Office, and that said lots are a portion of a tract of 6.1 acres <br />as shown on a map of the Armie W. James Property pt'epared by T. S. Moore, <br />which map is of recar'd in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of Henry <br />County, Virginia, and numbered Map 4, being recorded in Map Book 1, Page 9, <br />and a revision of said Map #4, dated April 1, 1932, prepared by T. S. Moore, <br />C. 1. S., being of record in lI.ap Book 2, page 290, both of said last above <br />mentiored maps having been recar'ded in the Clerk's Office of the Circuit <br />Cotn"t of Henry Count:. prior to the annexation of certain territory from the <br />County of Henry by me City of Martinsville in the year 1946, and said last <br />two mentione d maps were never certified by the owner of said property and <br />therefore vrere not properly dedicated as to streets sho.vn thereon. <br /> <br />\" <br /> <br />In the first Moore map mentioned above the said survey shows a street, known <br />as Matt street, opposite the intersection of Church street into Fayette street, <br />am shows the same crossing lots facing on Fayette Street, but the same is <br />
